How to Play

During a match, players take turns serving. The same player serves every point in a single game. Every time your opponent is unable to return one of your shots, you get a point. If you hit the ball into the net or out of bounds, your opponent gets a point.

Control Keys:

  1. Topspin to the left
  2. Topspin to the center
  3. Topspin to the right
  4. Move/Slice/Serve to the left
  5. Toss/Slice/Serve to the center
  6. Move/Slice/Serve to the right
Moving to the Ball: To move the player to the left or the right, press 4 or 6 key. The player will automatically move in or back toward the ball as necessary.

Serving: There are three steps required to serve the ball. First, position the player along the service line using the 4 or 6 key. Second, toss the ball in the air using the 5 key. Third, when the ball is at its peak, strike the ball using the 4 (left), 5 (center), or 6 (right) key.

Return Shots: There are four kinds of return shots available in the game.
  1. Topspin (higher risk but harder to return):
    • 1-Topspin left
    • 2-Topspin center
    • 3-Topspin right
  2. Slice (safer shot but easier to return):
    • 4-Slice left
    • 5-Slice center
    • 6-Slice right
  3. Volley (only available when your player approaches the net)
    • 1, 4-Volley left
    • 2, 5-Volley center
    • 3, 6-Volley right
  4. Lob (only available when your opponent approaches the net):
    • 5-Lob
Although 4 and 6 are also used to move the player left and right, those keys automatically change to the slice shot keys when the ball is near.

Scoring: The scoring is identical to conventional tennis. In essence, it takes:
  • 4 points to win a game
  • 6 games to win a set
  • 1 or 2 sets to win a match
In each game, the first point is called "15," the second "30," the third "40," and the fourth "game." If a game is tied at 40, it goes to deuce, wherein you must establish a two-point advantage to win the game. To win a set you must win 6 games with an advantage of at least 2 games. A tiebreaker is used when a set is tied at 6 games each. In the tiebreaker, you must score 7 points and win by 2. In the first three rounds of Tennis by Wilson, each match is a single set in length. To win in the semifinals and finals, you must win two sets each time.

Prize Money: When you win a match, you receive both "prize money" and a boost in your individual ranking. The amount of "money" you earn depends on how decisively you win your match. The fewer games your opponent wins, the more "money" you receive.
