Wireless Apps > Snow Shredder™

It’s a race against the clock as you snowboard down the mountain in a high-scoring slalom. Accelerate as you avoid the flags and execute jumps, trying to complete your run before time expires. Lose valuable time if you miss a flag or crash.

There are five levels: The Void, The Gulch, The Gorge, The Chasm, and The Abyss. You must complete each level before you can advance to the next. As the levels increase in difficulty, you’ll get more time to complete your run, but you’ll also face more jumps and the flags will become more frequent and more difficult to avoid. The faster your run, the more bonus points you’ll receive.

Features
  • Five levels of competition, with each level increasingly difficult and longer with more jumps
  • Slalom racing and midair tricks combined in a single downhill race against the clock
  • Phone vibrates when the snowboarder collides with an object
  • Stores one game that can be accessed through the "Load Game" function

How to Play

After downloading Snow Shredder from the catalog, select the Snow Shredder (SS) icon and then press the “okay” button or menu selection button on the phone. Note: To immediately exit this application, press the “end call” button on the phone. The application will immediately end and return the user to the main phone screen.

The Main Menu screen gives you access to all of the game functionality.

The choices are:

  • New Run – begin a new game
  • Load Game – load a saved game
  • Help – obtain Help information
  • Options – change the sound, vibrate or speed options
  • High Scores – display the list of high scores
  • Credits – display development credits
  • Exit – exit the game

To begin the game, select New Run from the main menu. You will be taken to the next screen that displays a mountain with five flags. The first flag (from the left) represents the first course (or level), and it is flashing red. The four other flags colored blue signify the remaining courses in the game.

This screen provides information about the level, including the course name, the length of course and the time allotted (“cut off”) to complete the course.

As the game progresses, each course is longer and more time is allotted to complete it. To continue, the press any key (or press the Clear key to return to the Main Menu).

Once you press any key to continue, a “Game Loading” window pops up. You must wait a few seconds while the course loads, after which you are brought to the game play screen.
Before game play begins, you are given a three (3) second countdown, signaling the start of the downhill race.

The object of the game is to complete each level within the specified time limit (or “cutoff”) and score the maximum amount of points.

At the top of the game play screen, the time remaining and the cumulative score are indicated.

Press the following keys to maneuver down the hill:

Up Arrow or 2 key = go faster
OK or 5 key = go straight
Right Arrow or 6 key= go right
Left Arrow or 4 key = go left
Down Arrow or 8 key = go slower

To score points maneuver around the correct side of each flag and properly execute the jumps. Points are awarded for both activities.

Shredding to the right of the blue flags results in 1,000 points. Shredding to the left of the red flags results in a 1,000 points.
Executing a jump counts for 5,000 points.

To hit the jump properly, you must be going full speed and lined up straight with the ramp of the jump. Going too slowly or coming at an angle results in missing the jump, but no time is taken off the clock. Although you get no points for missing a jump, you will continue down the hill without delay.

However, if you run into a flag instead of going around it properly, you’ll wipe out. The phone vibrates to signal the hitting of the flag (if the handset supports vibration). To make it down in time, you must build up speed again by pressing the “up” or 2 key.

After the allotted time expires at each level, you are shown one of two screens.

1. If you do not make it down the mountain in time, a “Game Over” screen appears. You now have the choice to “Try again” (which begins a new game) or to return to the Main Menu.

2. If you complete the course within the allotted time, then a window pops up displaying the time, score and bonus points achieved. This window only appears for 5 seconds.

You will then see the main scoring screen where you can view the time and score achieved for each of the levels you have completed. From this menu, you have three choices:
  • Continue on with the next course in the sequence.
  • Save the game at this point. This game can then be loaded at another time. (Only one game at a time can be saved. When a new game is saved, the older saved game is over-written.) When a game is saved, a “Saved Game” window pops up. From this point, you may “Press any key” to continue.
  • Return to the Main Menu.

Accessible from the Main Menu, the six (6) Help screens tell you everything you need to know to operate the game properly, including how to maneuver around the flags execute jumps. Each help screen contains an animation that illustrates the movement of the boarder.

From the first help screen, pressing the “#” key takes you forward to the next help screen. From the second through sixth screen, pressing the “*” key returns you to the previous Help screen. Pressing “0” returns you to the Main Menu screen.

From the Main Menu, you can reach the Options screen. From this section, you can turn off or on the sound and vibration features of the game. You can also select “Slow,” “Normal” or “Fast” for the speed mode of the game by scrolling down (using the down key) to the Speed option and pressing the right or left arrow on the main selection key of the phone.

The Options settings only take effect if you select “Save.” Otherwise the game reverts to the last set of saved options or the default options. Pressing the “0” key returns you to the Main Menu.

To check a previous high score, select the High Score screen where the top five (5) high scores achieved on the handset are stored and displayed. At current build, this feature is not supported by a network high scores server, so the scores represent only those games played on the specific handset.
Selecting the “Credits” screen will display the publisher, producer and developer of the game. Pressing the “0” key returns you to the “Main Menu.”

Lastly, choosing the “Exit” screen simply exits the game and returns the user to the applications menu.
