Wireless Apps > Babe Ruth™ Bashball

Batter up! Step up to the plate and hit a homerun like baseball legend Babe Ruth. This game allows you to take aim and swing at targets like windows, a chicken, a blimp, and some innocent bystanders. Score points for each homerun and target you hit.

There are three playing fields (Sandlot, Streets, and Stadium) and three skill levels (Rookie, All-Star, and Legend). The pitcher will throw you 10 pitches per round. You must hit a minimum number of targets to advance. More precise aim is required when you reach All-Star and Legend levels. Master the Legend level and who knows where you could end up playing next?

Features

  • Three difficulty levels
  • Three different venues per level
  • Trivia questions before each round
  • Power-ups, bonus animations, and more

How to Play

The Main Menu Screen gives you access to all of the game functionality.

The choices are:

  • Play – begin a new game
  • High Scores – display the high scores
  • Options – turn the sound on or off
  • Rules – obtain game instructions
  • About – game development credits
  • Check This Out – where to get cheat codes and game updates
  • Legal – copyright information
  • Quit – exit the game
To begin the game, select Play from the main menu. You will be taken to the next screen where you can choose your skill level. At each new level, your aim must be more precise and you will be required to hit more targets to advance.

Each game (and each playing field) begins with a trivia question about Babe Ruth. Answer correctly and you’ll be given a bonus Power-up that applies to your first swing during that round.

The object of the game is to hit as many targets as you can. Your score is shown on the bottom left of the play screen. You’ll be given 10 pitches on each playing field. The number of remaining pitches is shown on the bottom right of the screen.

Setting Horizontal Aim
The horizontal scale at the top of the screen represents horizontal aim. Stationary markers indicate positioning of available targets. The moving pointer represents your aim. Press “OK” or “Select” when the moving pointer comes upon a target marker. The more precise the alignment of the two symbols, the more accurate your aim.

Setting Vertical Aim
The vertical scale at the left of the screen represents vertical aim. Again stationary markers indicate positioning of available targets. The moving pointer represents your aim. Press “OK” or “Select” when the moving pointer comes upon a target marker. The more precise the alignment of the two symbols, the more accurate your aim.

Swinging the Bat
After ball is pitched, a direction arrow appears near the ball. To swing, press the navigation button that corresponds with the arrow (or use 2, 4, 6, and 8). For example if a right arrow appears after the pitch, press your right navigation button (or the 6). Swing too soon or too late and you’ll whiff, losing a pitch.
Rewards are in form of points, level advancement, animation, and power-ups.

The Score
Score 50 to 70 points for each target hit.
  • Sandlot: Birds Nest (50), Roof (50), TV Antenna (60), Window (60), Kite (70), Man in  Hammock (70), Chicken (70)
  • Streets: Trashcan (50), Balloons (50), Stop Light (60), Street Light (60), Window (70), Car (70), Man in Suit (70)
  • Stadium: Big Screen (50), Concession Stand (50), (60) Bronze statue of The Babe (60), Number 1 (60), Blimp (70), Mitt (70), Lights (70)
Earn 10 points for each homerun that doesn’t hit a target. A “whiff” sign announces each strike.

To advance, hit 5 targets as a Rookie, 6 as an All-Star, and 7 as a Legend. Complete the Legend level to enter the Secret level. Remember that you get only 10 pitches per round.

If you hit two or more targets in a row, the multiplier scoring goes into effect. The multiplier shown in the bottom right hand corner of the scoring bar will multiply your score for the target hit. (If you hit multiple targets in a row – your score will skyrocket!)

Animations
You’ll be rewarded with animations in addition to points when you hit certain targets.
  • Rookie: 1 target for each level - Chicken, Man in Suit with Briefcase, and Blimp
  • All-Star: 2 targets for each level - All of the above plus Kite, Street Window, and the Mitt
  • Legend: 3 targets for each level - All of the above plus Man in Hammock, Car, and Stadium Lights
  • Secret Level: You will have to play it to find out what animations appear there!!
Power-ups
You get a Power-up every time you answer a trivia question correctly. When you have a Power-up, a “P” in the bottom scoring area indicates it.
  • Power Bat: Your next hit is guaranteed to be a home run (minimum distance hit is just beyond the outfield wall)
  • Extra Swing: Receive one extra pitch for the round
  • Spit Ball: When you hit it, it will splatter two targets at once
  • Multi-headed ball: When you hit it, the hit splits into three balls
  • Exploding Ball: Flaming ball that produces four or five balls in an X or + pattern
  • Rubber Ball: After you hit it, it bounces back onto the field and you get an extra pitch
  • Pinball Ball: The ball randomly bounces across two or three places in the outfield if you get a home run. Comes with some sound effects
